Holly is currently a Senior Environmental Studies major at King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, PA. After graduation she hopes to work with a wildlife agency such as the PA Game Commission, US Fish & Wildlife Service, or for the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Holly currently works at the Shoe Department as an Assistant Manager, while going to college. In her free time, she enjoys playing ice hockey, hiking, and running.
“EPCAMR will be providing Holly with some opportunities to explore the AMD impacted watersheds that we work in while at the same time allowing her to gain a better understanding of the local flora and fauna that walk the woods of Northeastern and NorthCentral PA,” says Robert E. Hughes, EPCAMR Executive Director. She will definitely get a better understanding of the fishery impacts to our local waters during her internship. As for the wildlife, it will be something that she will have to pay more close attention to because in the past we just haven’t had an opportunity to dedicate time and effort to understanding the movements, migration, health impacts, habitat impacts, on many of the wildlife that we’ve come across on our projects. We’ve left that to the PA Game Commission, PA Fish & Boat Commission, US Fish & Wildlife Service, and other partners more equipped and staffed to handle such research and investigations.”
EPCAMR will work with Holly to see that she gets some first hand experience in the field, an AMD Water Monitoring and Biological/Habitat Assessment Monitoring Certificate, and some other activities that will surely get her hands dirty and expose her to the great outdoors. The orange water is only a piece of the beautiful scenery that is often found on our adventures. We’ll be sure to have her make networking connections with our colleagues in the agencies that she is looking to work with in the future. We have lots of them!
