The Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition, Jennings Environmental Education Center, and Stream Restoration Incorporated are excited to announce that they’re free publication, Accepting the Challenge, is now available as an interactive ebook in PDF format. Funding for this digital version was provided by a grant from the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds.
Accepting the Challenge was written by participants in the Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition (SRWC) in order to provide the public with a general overview of the history, cause of, and solutions to abandoned mine drainage (AMD); as well as describe the overall approach and successes of the SRWC. The book was published on behalf of the SRWC by the nonprofit organization, Stream Restoration Incorporated (SRI), in 2001.
Approximately 6,000 copies of the book were printed and distributed worldwide upon request. Although donations were accepted, the books were provided free-of-charge to anyone interested in the subject matter. After a while, the SRWC realized an electronic version of the book could be created for much less than printing more paper copies. In addition to the cost-effective and paper-reduction benefits, the book is now internationally accessible via the internet.
We hope this valuable resource will help more people “accept the challenge” to restore their local watersheds.
