The regional observance of Mining History Week will\u00a0take place January 10-24, 2015. There will be programs in Wilkes-Barre,\u00a0Scranton, Pittston, Port Griffith, Wyoming, and Ashley. The annual event seeks to\u00a0remember and honor the area\u2019s Anthracite coal mine workers, and their families and communities.<\/p>\n

The programs are sponsored by the Anthracite Heritage\u00a0Museum, Anthracite Heritage Foundation, King\u2019s\u00a0College, Luzerne County Historical Society, Luzerne County\u00a0Community College, Wilkes University, Huber Breaker\u00a0Preservation Society, EPCAMR, Greater Pittston Historical\u00a0Society, Anthracite Living History Group, Old Forge Coal\u00a0Mine, and Knox Mine Disaster Memorial Committee.<\/p>\n

All events are open to the public free of charge, except the first one.<\/p>\n

\nBoy Scouts of\u00a0America,\u00a0\u201cMining in Society\u201d Merit Badge\u00a0Day, King’s\u00a0College – open only to Boy Scout members of the\u00a0Northeastern Pennsylvania Council; program ends at 6 pm<\/p>\n

Jan. 15th, 7 pm\u00a0<\/strong>
\nMsgr. John J. Curran Annual Lecture,\u00a0Prof. Walter T. Howard of Bloomsburg\u00a0University,\u00a0speaking on \u201cSocialist and Communist Labor Organizers\u00a0in the Wyoming and Lackawanna Coal Fields during the\u00a01930s,\u201d King\u2019s College, Burke Auditorium,\u00a0McGowan School of Business – refreshments served at 6:30\u00a0pm<\/p>\n
