Hughes, EPCAMR Executive Director<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Now\u00a0 in our fifth year, WPCAMR and EPCAMR have partnered with the Anthracite Region\u00a0 Independent Power Producer&#8217;s Association (ARIPPA) to offer a competitive award\u00a0 to watershed organizations working on Abandoned Mine Land (AML) and\/or\u00a0 Abandoned Mine Drainage (AMD) remediation projects.\u00a0 Grants at a maximum of $2,500 will be awarded\u00a0 to <strong><em>at least one<\/em><\/strong> eligible environmental organization, non-profit, or Conservation District in\u00a0 the Anthracite Region and one eligible environmental organization or\u00a0 Conservation District in the Bituminous Region in the Commonwealth of\u00a0 Pennsylvania actively working on AML\/AMD issues. Grant proposals should be for\u00a0 on-the-ground AML\/AMD construction projects with a completion date between\u00a0 August 2013 and August 2015.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Proposals are due\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1604945912\"><span class=\"aQJ\">July 14th<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The amount granted is dependent upon\u00a0 demonstrated need.\u00a0 Applying\u00a0 organizations must support the mission of ARIPPA, including the removal and\u00a0 conversion of waste coal into alternative energy and the beneficial use of CFB\u00a0 ash for AML\/AMD reclamation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">In the past four years, the\u00a0 ARIPPA Award has funded these projects approved by the Coalitions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #222222;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Clearfield Creek Watershed Association (2010): $8,000 for Swank 13 AMD Passive Treatment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Evergreen Conservancy (2010): $2,000 for Alternative Energy development at Tanoma Wetlands<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Earth Conservancy\u00a0 (2010): $460 to replace informational signage on the Mocanaqua Loop Trail\u00a0 developed on abandoned mine lands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Schuykill\u00a0 Headwaters Association (2010): $4,770 to repair the Glendower Breech which will\u00a0 return a stream back to its original channel avoiding contact with coal\u00a0 sediment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Eastern Middle\u00a0 Anthracite Region Recovery, Inc. (2010): $4,770 for construction of a raw water\u00a0 intake on the Audenreid Treatment System to increase flow to the micro-hydro\u00a0 turbines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Blackleggs Creek\u00a0 Watershed Association (2011): $2,500 for the construction of a concrete pad for\u00a0 a lime dosing silo in the Bear Run Treatment complex.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Stream\u00a0 Restoration Incorporated (2011): $2,500 for project costs associated with\u00a0 removing waste coal refuse to be used in energy production and the construction\u00a0 of an AMD treatment system.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Schuylkill\u00a0 Headwaters Association (2011): $3,000 for the Wagner Run Restoration project to\u00a0 keep water in the stream channel, reducing the volume of the Pine Knot AMD\u00a0 discharge.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Huber Breaker\u00a0 Preservation Society (2011): $1,000 for the Huber Memorial Park Pedestrian\u00a0 Access Gate project to place a gate in a wrought iron fence surrounding the\u00a0 property.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Eastern Middle\u00a0 Anthracite Region Recovery, Inc (2011): $1,000 for the Audenreid Micro-Hydro\u00a0 AMD Treatment System Raw Water Intake project to provide reliable flow to the\u00a0 system.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Sewickley Creek\u00a0 Watershed Association (2012): $2,500 for Iron Sludge Recovery in the Marchand\u00a0 AMD Treatment System.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Chestnut Ridge\u00a0 Chapter of Trout Unlimited (2012): $2,500 for lime dosing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Babb Creek\u00a0 Watershed Association (2012): $1,000 offset cost of micro-hydroelectric\u00a0 turbines that utilize 2 billion gal\/day of the Antrim AMD to generate\u00a0 electricity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Eastern Middle\u00a0 Anthracite Region Recovery, Inc (2012): $1,000 for refurbishment of\u00a0 hydroelectric components on the Audenried AMD Treatment System.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Loyalsock Creek\u00a0 Watershed Association (2012): $2,500 to purchase and apply limestone to\u00a0 continue treatment of a large AMD seep at WALA Lake.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Shamokin Creek\u00a0 Restoration Alliance (2012): $500 to restore roadway, remove silt from pond 2,\u00a0 block entrances, and install signs at Carbon Run Site 42 AMD Treatment System.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Allegheny Valley\u00a0 Land Trust (2013): for construction of a system to collect sediment from a\u00a0 spoil pile along the Allegheny River<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Evergreen\u00a0 Conservancy (2013): to purchase and install a new water turbine at Tanoma\u00a0 Wetlands, a passive mine drainage treatment system at the headwaters of Crooked\u00a0 Creek, a tributary of the Allegheny River. Combined with a wind turbine and\u00a0 solar panels installed previously, the system will be aerated 24\/7.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Luzerne\u00a0 Conservation District (2013): removal of heavy sedimentation and woody debris\u00a0 dams within the tributary and repair and restore severely eroded streambanks\u00a0 and stormwater outlets flowing into the stream<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Mehoopany Creek\u00a0 Watershed Association (2013): 50 Tons of limestone sand will be applied to the\u00a0 South Branch of Mehoopany Creek to increase the pH levels in the stream to\u00a0 improve the fishery habitat and water quality in the Mehoopany Creek watershed\u00a0 historically impaired by acidity<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Plymouth\u00a0 Historical Society (2013): cleanup of illegally dumped garbage at the historic\u00a0 Avondale Mine Disaster Site where EPCAMR has completed several historic\u00a0 preservation projects in the past, located in Plymouth Township, Luzerne\u00a0 County, PA<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Lackawanna River\u00a0 Corridor Association (2013): a real estate appraisal on the value of abandoned\u00a0 mine lands that are being proposed to be acquired by their partner, the\u00a0 Lackawanna Valley Conservancy, in an effort to secure the property to be used\u00a0 for future AMD Treatment of the Old Forge AMD Borehole, Old Forge Borough,\u00a0 Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties, PA<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Celebrating its 25th\u00a0 Anniversary, ARIPPA is a non-profit trade association based in Camp Hill\u00a0 PA.\u00a0 Membership is located in both the\u00a0 Anthracite and Bituminous Regions of Pennsylvania and comprised of:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #222222;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Independent electric generating plants producing alternative energy and\/or steam from coal refuse and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Businesses associated with the coal refuse &#8211;
