Prior to reclamation, the site contained hazardous highwalls and highly acidic water.\u00a0The reclamation project restored and re-vegetated 320 acres of abandoned mine lands that now serve as habitat for wildlife. Almost five miles of lower Dents Run were restored by neutralizing the acid mine water and can now support aquatic life for the first time in more than a century.<\/p>\n<p>Want to see more pictures of AMR? Reclamation Act (SMCRA) of 1977, Title 4 &#8220;AML Trust Fund&#8221; Program, administrated by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.depweb.state.pa.us\/portal\/server.pt\/community\/abandoned_mine_reclamation\/13961\">PA DEP BAMR<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Mine-Scarred Lands Initiative, administered by the Brownfields Federal Partnership<\/li>\n<li>Reprocessing mountainous culm piles, burning them at a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/epcamr.org\/home\/content\/amd-amr-and-more-alphabet-soup\/co-gens-co-generation-technology\/\">Co-Generation Power Plant<\/a>,\u00a0then back-filling deep pits\u00a0and burying\u00a0highwalls with the ash<\/li>\n<li>Rural Abandoned Mine Program (RAMP), administered by the\u00a0Natural Resources\u00a0Conservation Service (NRCS);
